CoverMe™ Travel for Travelling Canadians Multi-Trip Plans

If you travel more than once a year, it may be less expensive to buy a Multi-Trip plan. Choose from 4, 10, 18 and 30 day plans. You'll be covered for 12 months and can travel for an unlimited number of trips up to the trip duration you have chosen, subject to provincial residency requirements of 183 days (212 days for residents in Ontario and Newfoundland).

And, you can always purchase a Top-Up for longer trips.

If you make pre-paid travel arrangements, you may want to choose the All-Inclusive plan that includes: Emergency Medical, Trip Cancellation and Interruption, Baggage Loss, Damage and Delay, and Flight and Travel Accident.

Emergency Medical

The benefits covered in the Emergency Medical plan* include:

  • Up to $5 million in emergency medical coverage
  • Coverage for paramedical services due to covered risk, up to $300 by profession
  • Ambulance transportation
  • Emergency dental treatment
  • Expenses related to death
  • Emergency Evacuation home
  • Visit to bedside if travelling alone
  • Return home of children under your care
  • Additional expenses for meals and hotel
  • Return home of vehicle
  • Trip break, return home without terminating coverage

All-Inclusive

This plan gives you comprehensive protection. It includes Emergency Medical, Trip Cancellation & Interruption, Baggage Loss, Damage or Delay, Flight Accident and Travel Accident.

Emergency Medical*

Trip Cancellation And Trip Interruption*

  • Up to $5,000 per insured per trip, and up to $7,000 per policy for Multi-Trip All-Inclusive Plan

Reimbursement of prepaid portion of the trip that is non-refundable and non-transferable to another travel date for a covered event

Highlights Of Some Of The Insured Risks:

Expenses related to:

  • You and your travel companion's unexpected medical emergency or death
  • Unexpected medical emergency or death of you or your travel companion's immediate family member or key person
  • Your business meeting is cancelled
  • Canadian Government issues a formal Travel Warning regarding your destination
  • Travel visa not issued
  • The person whose guest you will be during your trip, has been admitted to a hospital with an emergency or dies
  • Missed connection

Baggage Loss, Damage And Delay*

This coverage relates to the loss of, damage to, and delay of baggage and effects. This insurance provides coverage for the following expenses:

  • Up to $100 for replacement of a lost or stolen passport, driver's license, birth certificate or travel visa
  • Up to $500 for necessary toiletries and clothing when luggage is delayed by the carrier for at least 10 hours while the insured is en route. The maximum payable for this benefit under the Multi-Trip All-inclusive plan is $1,500 per policy year
  • Up to $300 per trip for any item or set of items to a maximum of $1,000. The maximum payable for this benefit under the Multi-Trip All-inclusive Plan is $3,000 per policy year

Flight Accident And Travel Accident*

Flight Accident and Travel Accident Insurance covers the following benefits:

  • If an accidental bodily injury causes the insured to die, to become completely and permanently blind in both eyes or to have two limbs fully severed above the wrist or ankle joints, in the 12 months after the accident, Manulife Financial will pay: $100,000 under Flight Accident Insurance; or $50,000 under Travel Accident Insurance
  • If an accidental bodily injury causes the insured to become completely and permanently blind in one eye or have one limb fully severed above a wrist or ankle joint in the 12 months after the accident, Manulife Financial will pay: $50,000 under Flight Accident Insurance; or $25,000 under Travel Accident Insurance
  • If the insured has more than one accidental bodily injury during the trip, Manulife Financial will pay the applicable insured sum only for the one accident that entitles the insured to the largest benefit amount

Emergency Medical Top-Up Options

You can purchase Emergency Medical Top-Up insurance if you have travel insurance from another insurer, but are travelling for longer than they provide coverage for.

You could also purchase this option if you have a CoverMe Multi-Trip plan and would like to travel for longer than 30 days.

Top-Up Options

  • Top-Up coverage must be purchased prior to the expiry date and is subject to an extra premium charge.
  • The Single-Trip Emergency Medical plan can be used to top up a Manulife Financial Multi-Trip plan or plans of other insurers for a trip up to 183 days, including top-up (212 days for residents of Ontario or Newfoundland).
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to confirm that top-up is permitted on the existing plan with no loss of coverage.
  • If the applicant is age 55 or older, the Medical Questionnaire must be completed.
  • The Single-Trip All-Inclusive Top-Up option can be used to top up a Manulife Financial Travel Insurance Multi-trip All-Inclusive plan.
  • Note: If a trip begins during the coverage period of your Multi-Trip plan but will extend beyond the expiry date, you can purchase top-up coverage for any travel days that fall after the expiry date or you can purchase a new CoverMe Travel Insurance Multi-Trip plan for the next 365-day period as long as the total duration of the trip does not exceed the maximum trip length you chose when you purchased the Multi-Trip plan.

Premiums

CoverMe™ Travel for Travelling Canadians insurance premiums are easy to plan for. Following are our rate charts and some guidelines to consider:

Calculate Top-Up Premium

  • Premium rate is in $CDN per person
  • Emergency Medical Family Coverage rates are 2x the premium rate for the oldest traveler under age 55.
  • Rates are subject to change without notice.
  • Premium due is based on:
    1. The plan purchased;
    2. The rate category; and
    3. The age at the time of application.
  • Number of coverage days for Single-Trip plans must include:
    1. The date of departure;
    2. The date of return; and
    3. The number of days in between.
  • Coverage will not take effect if your method of payment is not honoured.

Savings And Deductibles

  • 5% Travel Companion Savings for Any Emergency Medical Plan: This is available on all medical plans.
  • Family Coverage for Any Emergency Medical Plan: Available for spouse and dependent children when all family members are under age 55. The rate is calculated at 2 x the premium due for the oldest traveller.

Savings Combinations

All savings can be combined; except the Family Coverage and Travel Companion savings cannot be combined.

Deductible Savings Options

Deductible savings options are not applicable to the Travel Canada plan and All-Inclusive plans.

All published rates include a zero deductible. The following deductible options are available for Single-Trip and Multi-Trip Emergency Medical plans only:
