Project Overview

Manulife Financial has announced the launch of the CoverMeTM Travel mobile site and the CoverMeTM Packing App*, both of which are designed to increase convenience for travel insurance consumers. The rollout of these mobile touch points reflects the brand's customer focus and the fact that more and more consumers are using their smartphones as part of the purchase process.


Experience revealed that a large percentage of purchases made through the 1-800-COVER MEŽ phone number are for last-minute emergency travel insurance. The CoverMe Travel mobile site tailors to this behaviour, enabling consumers to purchase travel insurance at the last minute and while they are on-the-go. In fact, 56% of Canadians own a smartphone and 20% of owners report having used their smartphone to make a purchase. (Source: AskingCanadiansTM, 2012).

CoverMe Travel Mobile Site

The new CoverMe Travel mobile site enables busy travelers to purchase travel insurance on-the-go. As such, the site provides an additional, valuable service for potential and existing customers and reinforces the message that CoverMe Travel insurance has its customers covered - especially on mobile where consumers are spending more of their time.


Designed to meet consumer needs, the CoverMe team developed a new travel insurance product, the CoverMe Travel Single-Trip Emergency Medical Plan, designed specifically for the mobile initiative. The plan targets single-trip travelers who purchase insurance at the last-minute. The mobile site and the plan expand the convenience of making a phone call to mobile web browsing.

CoverMe Packing App

The award-winning CoverMe Packing App* is designed to help travelers prepare for a trip. Users can download the App and customize a packing list of travel items from categories like important documents, clothing, toiletries and most importantly, travel insurance. Users can also add categories and travel items, checking off each item as they pack.


Key features of the CoverMe Packing App include:

  • Create new packing lists
  • Edit customized packing lists
  • Access the existing catalogue of multiple categorized travel items
  • Add your own items
  • Receive travel packing tips

In December 2012, we launched a series of updates to our award-winning CoverMeTM Mobile Packing App, including the addition of a Travel Journal. In addition to creating packing lists, you can also utilize the following new Travel Journal features:

  • An integrated map functionality with search and mobile location services
  • Check-in to places while on your travels
  • Pin places you've visited and add journal entries, including photos and tags of friends
  • Share journal entries to Facebook and post your location on Twitter
  • Bookmark places you wish to travel to
  • Get directions and suggestions of places to visit close to where you are
